PHOTOGRAPHY TIPS FOR YOUR HONEYMOON

By Mike Paterson of Paterson Photography

Once the big day is over you will want to make sure that you continue to capture the memories of your new life with pictures.  A little planning today will save a lot of problems tomorrow.  Below are a few points to take into account before you jet off on you honeymoon…

1) Check out your camera.  If you have a roll of film in your camera, finish it.  If not, then pick up a 12 exposure and take some pictures, then get it developed long before the wedding day.  Did the pictures turn out?  If not, get you camera fixed now.

2) Buy extra batteries; without batteries your camera will not work.  A lot of tourist destinations do not carry a wide selection of batteries and if they do, they are going to charge for it.

3) Take lots of film.  Pick up more film than you think that you will need; you don't want to run out of film at a resort.  Store film in the freezer or fridge to keep it fresh.

4) Take film that will work in varied conditions.  While the beach may have a lot of light during the day, to get fantastic sunset pictures, or for pictures inside, you will want a faster film.  A 400 ISO film will be able to handle most situations.

5) If you are going to a beach, get a Ziploc bag to keep your camera in.  The two things that will ruin a camera the fastest are water and sand.

6) If you are flying to your honeymoon location, keep the film and your camera in your carry on bag.  This way you can make sure that your memories are safe and they don't get lost.  Ask for hand inspection of your film and camera at the security check-in at the airport.  North American x-ray equipment is fairly safe, but in third world countries and the Middle East a lot of film gets ruined by this equipment.

7) Film ages, so when you come back from your honeymoon get your film developed as soon as possible, within two weeks for best colors.

8) Buy photo albums for your pictures.  After spending your money on the honeymoon, film and developing, you don't want to toss the pictures in a drawer and have them ruined.

9) Get some enlargements of your pictures to put on the wall.  What better way is there to remember you honeymoon?
