THE MARRIAGE CEREMONY
![]() Over the years, wedding ceremonies have been steeped in tradition and protocol. Times are definitely changing! Creativity is becoming a part of many ceremonies as couples majority of marriage ceremonies are still held in churches, we are seeing many take place in homes, backyards, halls, and parks. You can choose to be married in any number of unusual places; perhaps on a cruise ship, in an old castle, or at a fern grotto on an island paradise. Many brides and grooms are writing their own vows. Whatever you decide, be sure to contact your clergyman or Marriage Commissioner as quickly as possible to discuss the requirements of your ceremony.
![]() Customarily the wedding takes place in the church the bride attends. If the bride does not belong to a church, but the groom does, the wedding may take place in the church the groom attends. Most religions require a couple to have pre-marriage counseling prior to the wedding.
Sometimes neither a bride or groom belongs to a church, but they would like a church wedding. You might have to do some checking around, so start early. Some clergymen are wiling to perform marriage ceremonies for couples that do not belong to their church; others are reluctant to do so if neither the bride or groom belongs to the church, or is interested in becoming a member.
